We all have had that time where we compared ourselves to someone. Comparison is a real thing, we see great people doing great things and we have that thought that comes in our minds and says, "if only I can be like that, everything will change." Then we open ourselves up to the lies from the enemy that says, "Only if you were as connected; only if you had as much money; only if your parents were there like them; only if you had as much influence as them then maybe your life would matter more.” The reality is those are all lies and your here for a reason and comparison is so over rated. There is a big difference between comparison and inspiration and it all is a posture of the heart. We all need people in our lives that inspire us to just be better people. Inspiration says, “This person is great and very gifted and I look at their life as an opportunity to grow in gifting’s and passions.” Comparison is the total opposite it says. “That person is great why can’t I be that great.” We begin to tell ourselves that we aren’t enough and we train ourselves to never be great all because we couldn’t do it like someone else. The great thing is, we were never meant to look like anyone else. If we have 2 people that look alike, one of you will not be needed. Everyone has a specific part to play in this world. Think about this, isn’t it interesting that we never compare ourselves to someone that we perceive as less than us. We only compare ourselves to people we perceive that are greater than us. Automatically, we’re putting ourselves in a place that says we're not enough, giving the enemy a door to walk through to begin to lie to us.
I encourage you this week pay attention to the posture of your heart towards great people around you. Are you inspired by them or do you find yourself looking at yourself less when your around them. If you find yourself looking at yourself lower than them, spend time with God and ask him, "God, in what area of my life am I not receiving your love?” Then, actually go to that person and tell them how much they inspire you. I believe this week, that spirit of comparison will be broken off of your life and mine!
